Meet Our Intern Christina!

Hello Charlotte’s Closet beauties, I’m Christina L. and am so excited to be interning this summer for Charlotte’s Closet! I love everything that has to do with fashion, from trending seasonal colors, to hairstyles, shoes, and even popular nail colors! I’m very excited that I get the opportunity to intern here, due to the creativity of letting young girls rent dresses in any style or color for their special occasions at an affordable price, especially since I’m one of those girls that doesn’t wear the same dress twice and always likes to change up my look!  For my first official blog I would like to share some of the trending colors I’m seeing this summer and my favorite looks from Charlotte’s Closet!

The first runner up is this beautiful blinged out number!

C153_1-JTODh-REOFY-mkIkEC153_2-eWgOl-VBhxh-LxYXqOne Shoulder Illusion Dress

This off white one shoulder illusion dress by Blush is honestly one of my favorite looks from Charlotte’s Closet. Off white is the new black currently in the fashion industry, and to whoever created the saying “never wear white after labor day”, you obviously know nothing about fashion! LOL

This gorgeous dress will have everyone doing a double take!

My second favorite look is this gorgeous stunner — another beauty by Blush!

9855-rxVUm-RQbvr-FgRuj9855_2-TCTtf-NbGhD-OLweuLace Cocktail Dress

This pale blue lace cocktail dress just makes me feel a winter wonderland kind of vibe and as the girly girl I am, need this as a necessity in my closet ASAP! Blue is currently elevating in the fashion world, from royal to pastel shades, the fashion industry can just never get enough of it.  I love how the jewels are placed over the lace creating a delicate yet magical dress for any event that you plan to attend. Let’s not forget about the open back, which in my opinion is the greatest detail of all time (insert Kanye’s voice here)!

The open back! I am a total sucker for an open back. You can never go wrong with it and give sthis dress that extra “oomph” by revealing just enough skin for a sexy yet elegant look.

Last but most definitely not least is this elegantly chic dress by Tiffany!

Tiffany_16030_1-vHhei-HulyG-vkEdQHalter Gown with Sparkle Top

This halter gown is an example of being effortlessly chic at its finest. The full length champagne sparkle skirt sets off a soft look, then the deep v-neck adds a bit of an edgy vibe. The crystals also soften the dress, letting you sparkle on the dance floor all night.

Until next time my Charlotte’s Closet beauties, stay fabulous!

8th grade graduation…High School here we come!

8th grade graduation…high school here we come!

May is such a busy month for 8th graders. There are school dances, graduations,  graduation parties and confirmations. This means tons of ceremonies and celebrations.  There is no doubt that style choices for tweens are different then style choices for teens.  The year that I graduated from 8th grade I had so many parties and dances to go to and I had to choose the perfect dress for my graduation day.  I still have the dresses hanging in my closet and to be honest, I have not worn one of them since.  That is the thing about style, each year not only do the trends change but we change, we get older and our tastes change.  A dress that I loved in 8th grade is simply not something I will wear now that I am in high school.  That is just another one of the reasons I LOVE LOVE LOVE Charlotte’s Closet.  Not having to invest in a dress for a special occasion ten times a year allows me to experiment with fashion without having to spend a ton of money. WIN WIN!

If you are graduating from 8th grade and need a graduation dress for a party or the ceremony itself there are a many different dress styles that I think are great!  What you choose depends of course on your body type and what makes you feel beautiful and special.  One of the styles that is really showing up this year is the “skater” style.  The reason it’s called “skater” is that it looks like the dresses worn by figure skaters.  Now if you read my blog a while back you know that I was a figure skater, which is why I love this style for girls graduating 8th grade!  What’s great about the style is that it has a flirty skirt bottom with a more fitted top.  It’s super cute and very girly!  Here is my favorite Charlotte’s Closet skater dress: Stella MLia_Bimba_Royal_Peacock_1-rRMGf-CgdVH-lvtdM  It comes in three colors too! Another great style I love for 8th grade dances and parties is a short dress with a beaded top.  We all know how I love the bling!  What I love about this style is the way the dress will light up at a dance.  Some of my favorite Charlotte’s Closet short sequined dresses are:  Dave & Johnny_8323_1-oYSIi-PDcTb-NNrDr  Dave & Johnny_6010_1-gGBmB-vmbuK-RfllG   And this great hi-low dress with sequins:  Josh & Jazz_Q0154992SASZF_1-kJPNT-ppcUk-UrRWC   If you need a dress for graduation ceremony itself or your confirmation ceremony, I think that a bit more conservative is the way to go as you don’t want it too flashy or too poofy under your graduation gown.   For that reason, I recommend a more fitted dress with not too much sparkle.  Here are my favorite Charlotte’s Closet 8th grade graduation dresses:  Joleen_Black-Bandage_0131-TwPQh-LkneP-KftLt  Josh-&-Jazz_Black_0294-KcXLj-MRGlr-ejyFD  Stella-Mullia_Blue_0094-JpleI-OkYbf-ruwQM  Jenna_Purple_0227-pUoTs-OGPGr-gwOiB   I know that graduating and going to high school can be an exciting time and can also be a scary time….or maybe a little of both. Be comfortable with who you are, have confidence in yourself and surround yourself with positive people. Just remember, the definition of the word “popular” is to be liked, admired, or enjoyed by many people or by a particular person or group…..which means that EVERYONE is popular with someone.  You don’t need to have a huge group of friends, all you really need are just a few good friends who like you just the way you are.

It’s Just an Illusion…

Harleigh  hearts

for Charlottes Closet

Style is not just what you wear, style is also who you are. I was thinking about it the other day and decided to try to say a little something each week not just about great outer style but also great inner style. Being a teenager is tough sometimes. As girls we deal with all sorts of issues and when it comes to style and fashion we can deal with body image issues. If you are reading this, you are beautiful, period. It doesnt matter if you are tall, short, thin or not, you are beautiful. Like I said, style is not just what you wear outside, its who you are inside, so KEEP SPARKLING. Now down to business

Once upon a time I used to be a competitive figure skater. One of the things I loved about competing was that moment just before the music started, when I was standing on the ice alone, just me, my skates and the ice. Sometimes I excelled, sometimes I fell, but no matter what happened in those next two minutes being a skater taught me how to pick myself up and just keep going, no matter what. The other thing I loved about skatingthe skating dress. Illusion is a style you see at many skating events, heck even the tights are an illusion, because they are opaque but look sheer. Thats what is so cool about the Illusion style prom and party dress — the fabric used can make it appear like you have crystals or lace just floating on your skin. Love that! This is something that we see in the bodice of illusion prom dresses and also on the back. Either way, its just stunning because it creates a magical look. The fabric can be sheer or opaque if done in a skin tone color. My personal favorite are those done with nude fabric.

Illusion prom dresses allow for a free flowing design with unusual edges. It also gives the option of having the appearance of a backless dress without actually being backless and it gives the dress a more structured feel when you are wearing it. Illusion bodices can look like a choker or statement necklace that flows into a beautiful sweetheart neckline. I also love a lace overlay onto a nude underlay. Its a beautiful and natural looking contrast. These endless options in the illusion prom dress are why Harleigh hearts the illusion style.

Check out this beautiful illusion style you can borrow from Charlottes Closet:

So youre going to prom, youve got the beautiful illusion dress, what do you do with your hair? One of the great prom hairstyles that is trending this year is side swept. A side swept style allows the back of an illusion dress to become a focal point, I mean, whats the point of having a really cool back on your dress if no one can see it? If you are like me, you want to wear your hair down but whats great about a side swept hairstyle is that it can be done with your hair down. Its really a glamorous look. But if you like an updo, the side swept updo, with loose waves is another gorgeous look. If you are wearing an illusion prom dress a side swept prom hairstyle is a great way to go!

You have got your illusion prom dress and you have chosen a side swept hairstyle, what about shoes? Let me first say that comfort is important. You are going to be on your feet for a long time, the shoes should not be hard to walk in or dance in. One thing I suggest is a thicker heel. Having a thicker heel gives you more support and comfort and makes walking much easier! One of my favorite style of prom shoes is a thicker heel with a clear material in a strappy sandal style. Think Cinderella and her glass slipper. The clear color heel goes along with the illusion theme and the strappy sandal style allows for beading around the toe. Scroll down to see a few photos of some great illusion prom shoes and be ready go dance the night away!

TREND ALERT: Dresses with Cut Outs for Everyone

Harleigh hearts

For Charlotte’s Closet

Welcome to another edition of Harleigh hearts! I’m pretty sure everyone is looking forward to summer as much as me!  Summer means no school, warmer weather and long days at the pool or beach. I love being able to wear shorts and cute shirts, but the best part is new swimsuits. I’m in love with the one piece styles with cut outs. It’s such a fun design and combines the more classic one piece with the elements of a more daring bikini.  I was super excited to see this style trend cross over into prom and party dresses this season.

Cut Outs Are Everywhere!

Just like the one piece swimsuit, the prom dress with cut outs bridges style tastes for girls who want a more classic look and those who want to be a bit more daring.  It also provides a great alternative for girls who want a backless dress AND more coverage and support.  The flirty peekaboo style is another great teen twist on the backless dress and it’s for this reason that Harleigh hearts the cut out dress.  Here are some of my favs:

How Does Charlottes Closet Work?

I got a lot of questions last week about Charlotte’s Closet and how it works. One that came up: “Is this like renting a prom or party dress?” The short answer is yes, Charlotte’s Closet allows you to rent a prom or party dress. The longer answer is: Charlotte’s Closet prefers to use the term borrow and really borrow or rent a dress truly means the same thing, however, Charlotte’s Closet wants every girl to feel like she has access to the closet of her friend who has a ton of pretty dresses and great taste of course!  I don’t know about you but who doesn’t want a BFF like Charlotte’s Closet to borrow from?  The other cool thing about Charlotte’s Closet is it’s TOTALLY FOR US teen and preteen girls! Sure there are other sites that allow you to borrow dresses, but those are for adults, and I don’t know about you but there is NO WAY I would ever wear one of my Mom’s dresses to a party!  Just not my style…..sorry Mom!  I love you, just not your dresses!

See more about how it works here:

Thanks for reading and tune in next week as I’ll be sharing more of my favorite prom dress trends — the backless and illusion style!  I’ll also be giving you the inside scoop on my favorite hairstyles and shoes to complete your best prom look!
